Speech and language therapist toolkit - July 2012

"I have found the Clickety Books invaluable as part of my speech and language therapist tool kit."

Parents and schools engage really well with the books and resources and they love having something tangible they can work with. Not to mention the children - the other day I would have had a potential meltdown in clinic if I had not allowed ‘Mark the Sparky Shark’ home for another week!

The downloadable puppets and pictures are great ready to go resources for therapy sessions and it makes a refreshing change from giving worksheets for homework.

One 7 year old, who was fronting, had achieved his ability to use /k/ at 'short story' level for a while, however generalisation was proving tricky. In discussion with the classroom teacher we decided she would try to incorporate the sounds into whole class, everyday practise with Clickety stories and characters. After half a term, he had managed to bridge that gap to conversation level and no longer needed therapy.

I have also found the books as a really useful tool for children with final consonant deletion. There are lots of opportunities for auditory input and practise of VC sequences, which you can then build into CVC words.

I have found the Clickety Books invaluable as part of my speech and language therapist tool kit.
